1) The psychodynamic implications of the Soccer World Cup on the South African Psyche
Dr. Pieter Koortzen – Leading assessment and psychodynamic expert and academic affiliated to Resolve and the University of Johannesburg
The 2010 Soccer World Cup is going to be the biggest South African showcase ever to grace the world stage. All eyes, from every corner of the globe, will be turned in our direction for a very crucial six week period that we’ve been planning for and talking about since the announcement by Sepp Blatter on the 11th of August 2002, that South Africa had won the bid. But what does hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup mean for South Africans from a psychological, and specifically a psychodynamic point of view?
2) What is an IO Psychologist? Issues around Role Clarity, Scope of Practice and the IO Psychologist as Consultant
Stephen Renecle – Industrial Psychologist
Steve will attempt to cut through the mystique and confusion that exists for some, around the nature and scope of IO Psychology practice and will discuss a particular perspective towards IO Psychology practice. The nature of the IO Psychologist’s role as consultant will be sketched, as well as fields of application for the IO Psychologist as consultant. In conclusion, Steve will briefly discuss some of the risks and opportunities facing IO Psychology as profession.
The Speakers
Pieter Koortzen is one of the country’s thought-leaders in terms of psychodynamics; and is well-versed and well-known for the work that he has done regarding the impact of unconscious processes on group psychology and dynamics. He worked at UNISA for a number of years where he was integrally involved in the development of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Recently he has moved into a more independent role consulting to business through Resolve and managing various psychological assessment processes. He is also now affiliated to the University of Johannesburg where he is once again involved in the development of psychologists and the psychological profession. He is an interesting and dynamic speaker with some intriguing perspectives to unpack.
Stephen Renecle is a graduate of the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree and of Stellenbosch University where he obtained a BA (Honours) and MA (Cum Laude) degrees. Since 1985 Steve has acted as a freelance consultant to various organisations on diverse matters related to people in the workplace and especially regarding the assessment and development of organisational and individual potential and ability in the workplace. It is mainly in this area that Steve has addressed numerous congresses and interest groups and has published several articles. During 1988 he formed Stephen Renecle & Associates which, as an established IO consultancy, has served several hundred organisations, mainly in South Africa, but also abroad. Steve is registered as an Industrial Psychologist and is actively involved SIOPSA. He currently serves as Past President of SIOPSA.
