ETHICS & ASSESSMENTS – DEALING WITH DAY-TO-DAY ETHICAL CHALLENGES
Every day, as Industrial Psychologists and HR Specialists, we are faced with a myriad of challenges in the workplace. Sometimes the line between client satisfaction, business needs, good practice and ethical conduct become blurred. This workshop aims to explore some of the most common ethical challenges that we face in the assessment arena and looks at ways to address these appropriately.
The best defence against ethical dilemmas is a good offence. By looking out for foreseeable conflicts and discussing them frankly, practitioners can possibly avoid misunderstandings and sticky situations. By being prepared for these issues, Industrial Psychologists and HR Specialists endorse the fact that good ethical practice is good professional practice.
We begin the workshop with a brief theoretical overview of assessments in South Africa in order to present delegates with a solid frame of reference. We will give delegates an indication of past ethical challenges in assessments versus future ethical challenges. A brief literature review of the key challenges facing assessment practices will be discussed. Inputs and feedback provided by the delegates will form the basis of a research project focusing on ethics in assessment.
