SUMMARY:Working With What Lies Beneath the System - 12 February 2026
DESCRIPTION:Interest Group System Psychodynamics of Organisations presents... \nWorking With What Lies Beneath the System \nThis four-hour workshop introduces systems psychodynamics as a way of understanding what is happening beneath the surface in organisations – in individuals\, teams and across the wider system. \nWe begin with an overview of systems psychodynamics: what it is\, where it comes from\, and how it adds value to organisational work. We will look at how systems thinking helps us notice the links between the macro (organisation and context)\, meso (teams and departments) and micro (individuals)\, and how these levels are interdependent. Core system ideas such as openness\, purposefulness\, multidimensionality\, emergent behaviour and counterintuitive outcomes will be introduced in clear\, practical language. \nWe then connect this with psychodynamic thinking – the idea that not all behaviour is driven by conscious\, rational decision-making. Using the iceberg as an overall image\, we explore what sits above the surface (what people say and know) and what may be below the surface (unconscious thoughts\, feelings and patterns)\, including how anxiety and psychological defences may shape behaviour at work. \nThe workshop then introduces key interpretive models used in systems psychodynamic work. The models will be briefly explained with simple examples of how it can help us make sense of everyday organisational dynamics.Throughout the session\, short discussions and simple reflective exercises will help participants link these ideas to their own contexts\, without requiring prior systems psychodynamics experience. \nWORKSHOP BENEFITS \n\nHave a basic understanding of what systems psychodynamics is and its importance in organisational work.\nBe familiar with the iceberg metaphor and the distinction between conscious and unconscious dynamics at work.\nUnderstand that anxiety and defences are normal features of organisational life\, and see how they can influence behaviour in systems.\nBe introduced to a range of interpretive models and how they can be used to think about real organisational situations.\nLeave with a shared language and starting framework for noticing and discussing “what is really going on” in teams and organisations\n\nEVENT INFORMATION \n\nDATE: 12 February 2026\nTIME:  13h00 - 17h00\nLOCATION: Zoom Online\nCPD: Applied For\n\nWORKSHOP FACILITATORS \n\nDr Louise Tonelli\n\nDr Louise Tonelli is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. SUMMARY:IGSPO: Social Dream Drawing in Group Coaching - 12 March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Interest Group System Psychodynamics of Organisations presents... \nSocial Dream Drawing in Group Coaching: Finding your answer in a dream of the other \nThis half-day workshop explores an adaptation of Rose Mersky's Social Dream Drawing (SDD) methodology for group coaching contexts. Originally developed as a research method for accessing transitional dynamics\, SDD has been transformed into a powerful coaching intervention that facilitates deep engagement with professional dilemmas through collective exploration of dream images. \nThe theoretical component of this workshop will trace the method's evolution from research tool to coaching practice\, demonstrating how it complements other group coaching tools. Drawing from experiences with coaches-in-training\, female leaders\, and business managers\, we will examine how the structured engagement with dream drawings creates a rich symbolic language within coaching groups and enables rapid access to deeper levels of understanding. \nParticipants will be introduced to a six-stage coaching process that moves from individual dream presentation through group association to explicit connections with coaching goals. The method's unique value in tracking transformational progress through changes in symbolic expression will be illustrated through case examples. System psychodynamics and socio-analytics informs this methodology. \nWORKSHOP BENEFITS \n\nTo be introduced to Social Dream Drawing as an approach for working with professional dilemmas in group coaching settings.\nTo see how dream images and dream drawings support deep collective exploration and create a shared symbolic language in coaching groups.\nTo be walked through a six-stage coaching process that links individual dream material\, group association and explicit coaching goals.\nTo experience firsthand how the method allows simultaneous engagement with individual and collective dynamics in a contained group setting.\nTo reflect on where this approach could complement existing group coaching and leadership development practices.\n\nEVENT INFORMATION \n\nDATE: 12 March 2026\nTIME:  13h00 - 16h00\nLOCATION: Zoom Online\nCPD: 3 Clinical CEU\n\nWORKSHOP FACILITATORS \n\nEkaterina Shapovalova \n\nEkaterina holds Master’s degrees in Management (Leeds University Business School\, UK) and Psychology (Higher School of Economics\, Moscow)\, and is currently a Doctoral student at the Tavistock and Portman. She is a Senior Lecturer at Higher School of Economics\, where she teaches Psychoanalysis of Organisations and Neuropsychoanalysis. Ekaterina is a Certified Professional Business Coach and Supervisor and has worked for over ten years as a psychodynamic coach and business consultant with private and corporate clients\, as well as a methodologist and group coach in various corporate leadership development programmes. \nLIMITED SEATS AVAILABLE!!!

SUMMARY:People Excellence To Gain A Competitive Edge In A Disruptive Innovative World - 19 March 2026
DESCRIPTION:SIOPSA Academy presents... \nPeople Excellence To Gain A Competitive Edge In A Disruptive Innovative World \nIn the current disruptive innovative\, ideas-experience-based world\, people are the only true value unlockers and wealth creators in organisations. Why? Because this world is fuelled by the power of people’s imagination\, creativity\, and ingenuity. Concurrently\, the war for talent has shifted from not merely attracting people (the hard talent war) to providing (hyper-) personalised\, purpose-driven\, meaningful work experiences of thriving\, and hence personal fulfilment\, for people (the soft talent war). \nPeople have become central to the continued viability of organisational performance and success in the present and future. Organisations must be great at making their people thrive. Their people are the best they can\, and want to be. People Excellence has become a strategic imperative for organisations. Strategically knowing the state of an organisation’s People Excellence – its “people creditworthiness” – has become mission-critical for every organisation\, in the present and future. \nThe purpose of this one-day Workshop is to enable participants to conduct a strategic organisational stress test of the people creditworthiness of their organisations\, indicative of its People Excellence. The application of this stress test will assist in the identification of strategic people interventions to bring about People Excellence in their organisations. The interventions will create the organisational conditions under which people will be able to flourish and thrive\, and consequently feel fulfilled in their organisations. In this way\, an organisation will win the soft talent war. \nThis Workshop Benefits are... \n\nStrategically frame and position People Excellence in the new world of work\nExposure to the best thought-leadership\, latest research\, and cutting-edge practices regarding People Excellence\nUnderstand how to diagnose in an integrated\, systemic manner the People Excellence of an organisation\, its people creditworthiness\nBe capacitated to enable the unleashing the synergistic fusion of lasting People Excellence within their organisation\n\nWho Should Attend \n\nIndustrial and Organisational Psychologists and People Professionals who work in the Organisational and People Effectiveness/Development Domains with at least 3 years of experience.\n\nEVENT DETAILS \n\nDATE: 19 March 2026\nTIME: 09h00 - 17h00\nCPD:  Applied For\n\n FACILITATED BY \n\nProf. Theo Veldsman

SUMMARY:Academy - Designing Fit-For-Purpose Organisations For A Different Future - 16 April 2026
DESCRIPTION:SIOPSA Academy presents... \nDesigning Fit-For-Purpose Organisations For A Different Future \nThe way organisations are designed – its Operating Model – has a profound effect not only on the organisation’ ability to execute its strategy successfully\, but also on its optimal resource deployment and utilisation\, the efficiency of its mode of working\, the conduciveness of its culture and dynamics\, consequently on its overall performance. And\, ultimately on its continued viability. An organisation can indeed compete by its design. The new world of work requires organisations to re-examine their existing designs from first principles in a zero-based way. \nThis one-day Workshop aims to capacitate participants with a high-level understanding of the what\, why\, how\, who and whereto of organisational design. The Workshop is based on the latest thinking and practices regarding OD\, and the extensive practical experience of Prof. Theo Veldsman – the workshop facilitator – gained from close on 60 OD consulting assignments over about 35 years across multiple industries\, nationally and internationally. The Workshop also makes extensive use of case studies to illustrate OD-in-action. \nAfter attending\, delegates will have gained deep insight into OD as a critical organisational discipline and key executive leadership task. They will have a well-grounded\, comprehensive and high-level understanding what the designing of a fit-for-purpose organisation entail. \nThis Workshop Benefits are... \n\nSeamlessly merge the latest theory and practice of OD;\nPresent a comprehensive\, integrated route map of OD;\nOffer real case studies to show participants how to apply OD pragmatically at work.\n\nParticipants will receive a comprehensive workshop workbook supplied to participants once they have registered for the workshop. \nWho Should Attend \n\nIndustrial and Organisational Psychologists and People Professionals who work in the Organisational Effectiveness/Development Domain with at least 3- 5 years of experience.\n\nEVENT DETAILS \n\nDATE: 16 April2026\nTIME: 09h00 - 17h00\nCPD:  8 Clinical CEU\n\n FACILITATED BY \n\nProf. Theo Veldsman

SUMMARY:IGSPO - The Nature of the Unconscious in Organisational Life - 14 May 2026
DESCRIPTION:Interest Group System Psychodynamics of Organisations presents... \nThe Nature of the Unconscious in Organisational Life \nThis half‑day workshop explores how anxiety\, defences\, and unconscious processes shape behaviour in organisations. Building on the foundations introduced in Workshop 1- while remaining fully accessible to new participants. The content integrates the iceberg model\, CIBART\, systems thinking\, psychodynamic theory\, and emerging neuroscience. \nThe workshop examines how unconscious dynamics operate at personal\, relational\, and collective levels. Participants will deepen their understanding of how these forces influence roles\, teams\, and organisational systems\, often in ways that remain unspoken yet profoundly impactful. \nWORKSHOP BENEFITS \n\nGain a richer understanding of how childhood roles\, early anxieties\, and defensive patterns shape adult behaviour and workplace dynamics.\nStrengthen their ability to recognise and work with unconscious processes that influence organisational life.\nEnhance their capacity to articulate and intervene in what is happening “beneath the surface of consciousness” in consulting\, coaching\, leadership\, and OD practice.\n\nEVENT INFORMATION \n\nDATE: 14 May 2026\nTIME:  13h00 - 17h00\nLOCATION: Zoom Online\nCPD: 3 Clinical CEU\, 1 Ethical\n\nWORKSHOP FACILITATORS \n\nInette Taylor\n\nOver her career she attended a vast number of professional training and accreditation courses in trauma intervention\, hypnotherapy\, psychological assessment techniques\, psychotherapeutic interventions\, couple counselling\, neuropsychological assessment training\, BWRT and others. She presented/co-presented on numerous occasions at psychological societies in South Africa and worked as Consultant in several Group Relations events (in-person and online since 2019). She has provided psychological services as an HPCSA accredited CPD provider in various capacities. Inette provides psychotherapy\, company assessments\, coaching\, neurofeedback and other psychological services for companies\, individual clients\, work teams\, and couples. \n\nDr Neville Goldin\n\nNeville is a certified Tavistock executive coach\, specializing in the systems psychodynamic method of coaching. Neville’s focus in coaching is on helping leaders achieve their potential in a real and authentic way and his special interest is in assisting leaders with career shifts and transitions (moving into\, up and through an organisation). \nWhile Neville’s approach to executive coaching is eclectic and based on the needs of each client\, he favours what is called the systems psychodynamic approach to coaching which essentially means working with the entire system and working below the surface. We try to understand the role the person plays in the organisation and the dynamic interplay between the individual leader or manager\, his/her role and the organizational context in which they work\, at both an obvious and a hidden level. The purpose is to forge new meanings and understandings and achieve greater clarity about oneself\, one’s work and the organisation. This new understanding\, if applied and practised\, translates into more authentic interactions and greater effectiveness in one’s role\, benefitting both the individual and the organisation. \n\nProf. Frans Cilliers\n\nWith a long history in academia and writing\, Prof. Cilliers is currently an Emeritus Professor at UNISA\, where he continues to teach and mentor postgraduate students at the master's and doctoral levels. He gives lectures at other South African universities as well. The Interest Group on Systems Psychodynamics of Organisations was founded by Prof. Cilliers. In addition\, he belongs to and is associated with a number of international organisations. \n

SUMMARY:IGSPO - Online Group Relations Experience Entitled - Day One
DESCRIPTION:Interest Group System Psychodynamics of Organisations presents... \nThe Nature of the Unconscious in Organisational Life \nThis 1.5 days Group Relations Working Conference Experience (GRC) is an intensive\, experiential event in which participants join staff to form a temporary organisation and use its unfolding life as the primary text. The conference is grounded in systems psychodynamics and Tavistock / Group Relations traditions\, with a particular focus on authority\, role\, boundary and task\, and the way unconscious processes shape organisational behaviour. \nThe primary task of the conference is: \nTo study the exercise of authority and the taking up of leadership and other roles within a temporary organisation\, in the “here-and-now\,” with attention to conscious and unconscious dynamics. \nContent and focus\nAcross the 1.5 days\, participants will work with: \n\nThe system-as-a-whole\, and how individuals are taken up by roles as much as they “take up” roles in turbulent organisations.\nThe study of projective-introjective-projective identification defense structures when taking up leadership and exercising authority\nBasic assumption mentality (e.g. dependency\, fight/flight\, pairing) as it emerges live in groups.\nBoundary\, authority\, role and task (BART) as core lenses for thinking about behaviour in the system.\nTheir own countertransference\, fantasies and impulses as data about the organisational field.\nThe institutional and social unconscious\, accessed through associative work and the matrix.\n\nBy attending\, you can: \n\nUse the temporary organisation to study behaviour in real time – your own and others’ – rather than only talking about it in theory.\nStudying projective-introjective-projective identification defense structures when taking up leadership and exercising authority\nObserve how authority\, role\, boundary and task are worked with (and defended against) in practice.\nNotice basic assumption dynamics (dependency\, fight/flight\, pairing\, etc.) as they emerge and experience their impact on thinking and work.\nPractise using your feelings\, impulses and fantasies as data from the system\, not just as “personal reactions”.\nTake these experiential insights back into your consulting\, coaching\, OD or leadership work when working with teams\, culture and change.\n\nEVENT INFORMATION \n\nDATE: 28 & 29  August 2026\nLOCATION: Zoom Online\nCPD: 12 Clinical CEU\, 2 Ethical\n\nWORKSHOP FACILITATORS \n\nDr Louise Tonelli\n\nDr Louise Tonelli is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. SUMMARY:IGSPO - Online Group Relations Experience Entitled - Day Two
DESCRIPTION:Interest Group System Psychodynamics of Organisations presents...
