About the Facilitators:

Barbara Donaldson is a registered Industrial and Counselling Psychologist in Independent Practice in Johannesburg. She is a seasoned professional in the field of psycho-legal work, having gained her experience over many years, with over 100 court appearances as an expert witness!

She also heads up the Psycho-legal Interest Group within SIOPSA which aims to standardize practice and position the profession key stakeholder in society and the South African economy at large. She has presented this very workshop at the SIOPSA Annual Conference to a ‘full-house’ each year, as well as at the South African Medico-Legal Society (SAMLS) event in Pretoria.

Barbara gained a Psychology Master’s degree (cum laude) from UNISA in 1983. She had previously been awarded a BA (Hons) degree in English Language and Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand (1972), followed by a Higher Education Diploma from UNISA (1974), and worked as a Senior English teacher at matriculation level for six years. Barbara has seven years’ experience as Head of the Assessment Section of the Assessment and Counselling Division, National Institute for Personnel Research. She also has 31 years’ experience in medico-legal assessment of employability and has testified as an expert witness in this regard on numerous occasions. Barbara was awarded full membership of the South African Clinic Neuropsychology Association in 1991, following peer review and accreditation processes. She has been in private practice for the past 28 years.


Who and WHY should you attend?

This workshop is not for Industrial Psychologists only!

It is aimed at any registered health professional who conducts work in the medico-legal field. This may include Clinical, Counselling, Educational, Speech Therapists and Industrial Psychologists as well as Occupational Therapists and other medical professionals who do assessments for use in the legal context, such as personal damages, Road Accident Fund, medical negligence cases amongst others.

The workshop aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the following:

• Roles and responsibilities of the health professional in the legal context

• How to prepare for and present oneself professionally in a court of law

• Court etiquette

• Navigating the terrain of the legal environment as a health professional


Members will receive CEUs points when attending this workshop
