  • What will the task team deliver on the code of ethics?
  • How will this new code of ethics effect you as an Industrial Psychologist?

  • Participate in the focus group discussions on ethics risk analysis relating to Industrial Psychology ethical matters.

About the presenters

Dr. Leon Van Vuuren                                                                                                                   

Dr. Leon van Vuuren holds the position of Executive Director: Professional and Business Ethics at The Ethics Institute (TEI). Prior to joining the Institute in July 2014, he was a professor in Industrial Psychology in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management (IPPM) at the University of Johannesburg where he taught industrial psychology and business and professional ethics for 26 years.

During 2015 he was appointed by the South African Minister of Health to serve a second five-year term on the Professional Board for Psychology of the HPCSA. In this capacity he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board and the Chairperson of the Committee for Preliminary Inquiry (Ethics Committee). He is also currently the convenor of a multi-stakeholder task team responsible for a total revision of the regulations and codes that govern professional ethics in psychology in South Africa.

Leon acts as an advisor on professional ethics to several professional associations. He was the convenor of the ‘Future Fit’ professional ethics task team of the SIOPSA. In the latter regard he was the primary author of the Industrial Psychologists’ Oath. During 2013 he was awarded honorary life membership of Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology of South Africa (SIOPSA) for his contribution to this discipline and profession.

Prof. Deon Meiring                                                                                                                    

Prof Deon Meiring is an associate professor in the Department of Human Recourses Management at the University of Pretoria. He is registered as an Industrial Psychologist (PS 009492) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) since 1995. Prof Meiring serves as an executive committee member on the portfolio professional practice in the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology of South Africa (SIOPSA). He was recently appointed on the Ethics task team of the HPCSA. In 2016 Prof Meiring received a presidential award from the SIOPSA for significant contributions to Industrial and Organisational Psychology in South Africa. He is also an honorary member of the South African Assessment Centre Study Group (ASCG) for invaluable contributions to the field of Assessment Centers practice in South Africa.
