SNAKES IN SUITS – UNDERSTANDING PSYCHOPATHS IN THE WORKPLACE
“Workplace bullying is on the rise with 96% of people claiming to have experienced it” (VitalSmarts Report 2014).
Workplace bullies come in different shapes and sizes: a boss who can be mean for no reason; a co-worker who takes credit for your work; a client who knows no boundaries. Whatever the form, the behaviour is severe, destructive and pervasive. This session aims to close some gaps in understanding the psychopathic behaviour in the workplace and the destructive impact it has on individuals, teams and organisations.
The following topics will be covered during the course of the evening:
ü Understanding the dynamics of the workplace bully:
o The difference between bullying and psychopathic behaviour
o Narcissism, antisocial personality disorder & psychopathy
o Prototypical core characteristics
o Nature vs Nurture?
ü How it shows up in the workplace:
o Understanding the continuum from bully to psychopath
o The ‘evil’ plan
o Impact on individual, teams and organisations
o Looking at the workplace culture as an enabler
