Call for Papers: South African Journal of Industrial Psychology (SAJIP) Special COVID-19 Issue


The Editor-in-Chief of the South African Journal of Industrial Psychology (SAJIP) would like to invite you to consider submitting a manuscript for inclusion in this scholarly journals’ special edition. The following describes the mission, the coverage of the special edition, and the guidelines for submission to SA Journal of Industrial Psychology.


Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the world as we know it has changed forever. On 15 March 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared the State of Disaster. Drastic and wide-spread measures such as social isolation, breakdown of all but essential economic activities, have been implemented, resulting in unprecedented socio, economic, and psychological hardship. Measurable effects of the virus are currently calculated in terms of the number of cases, recoveries, and deaths. Still, the secondary effects, because of trying to combat the disease, will be immeasurable and be felt long after a cure for the virus has been found.


This call for papers is intended to solicit insights and viewpoints from researchers, academics, and scholars regarding Industrial and Organizational Psychology’s role in emergency and pandemic management. Interested authors are encouraged to submit their conceptual and empirical papers addressing the theme of this special issue.

Recommended Topics:

  • How the pandemic has impacted the world of work.
    • The impact of Covid-19 on the psychological well-being of workers.
    • Strategies to address or alleviate the consequences of the pandemic.
    • Management/leadership/governance and Covid-19.
    • Work/life balance (integration) during Covid-19.
    • The impact of Covid-19 on emerging workers.

It is our hope as industrial and organisational psychologists, to contribute, respond, facilitate, and also influence in meaning and sense-making of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on work at the individual, group, and organisational level.

Prospective authors should note that only original and previously unpublished article manuscripts will be considered for peer review. When you submit the article, select the “Original Research – Special Collection: COVID-19” as the article type. The submission portal will be accessible on https://sajip.co.za. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow the APA style for reference citations.
