SIOPSA Conference 2017 Call for Abstracts

Kindly submit your research papers, panel discussions, symposia, round table discussions, case studies, conference workshops and master classes. These could encompass theoretical, conceptual or empirical contributions relating to psychological processes, principles and paradigms, across diverse practice domains.

Expanding on the theme of being in service to society, the 19th SIOPSA Annual Conference will focus on the growth of the profession in all its facets, ranging from academia, practice, industry, and strategic partnerships right through to diversity.

SIOPSA’s President, Manoko Ratala, believes that “IOP needs to evolve to respond to the volatile, complex and ambiguous climate in both industry and the country as a whole. We need to ensure that IO psychologists are prepared for the real world of work as it unfolds. The key is in aligning the training curriculum to this unfolding and ever-changing landscape.” On the one hand, this entails increasing SIOPSA’s footprint and helping to develop a pipeline for future IO psychologists and, on the other hand, it means that we, as IOPs, must focus on improving and increasing value added services to our clients, in our profession and to our society.

Inspired by this sentiment and Manoko’s vision for growth in IOP, SIOPSA has conceptualised an overarching special theme for the 2017 SIOPSA Conference.

Ensure that you participate in this year’s exciting conference theme

Growing IOP to create #IOPLegacies

To this end, the 2017 Conference theme aims to harness our members’ experiences (both practical and scientific) that illustrate how IOP has contributed to growth with clients, organisations, in industry and in practice. The upcoming conference will therefore focus on IOP RELEVANCE, COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS AND CELEBRATED DIVERSITY.

We invite submissions from IOPs that contribute to the theme and encourage ideas for symposia, round table and panel discussions. However, we believe each intervention can contribute to the collective learning and growth of our members and, therefore, invite you to submit your abstracts around your key success stories, not just around the conference theme.

We’re looking forward to receiving your abstract submission for the 19th SIOPSA Annual Conference.

Abstract Submission guidelines:  Click Here

Deadline for submission is:  10 February 2017

Please remember to ensure that you submit your abstract in the correct format. Submissions that do not comply with the abstract guidelines will not be accepted.

THE VERY FIRST LIST OF COACHING PRACTITIONERS IS BEING LAUNCHED

The IGCCP (under the auspices of SIOPSA) is working closely with its international peers in order to professionalise the coaching industry, as professional bodies have an important and strategic role to play in this process. Both the International Society for Coaching Psychology (ISCP) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) have already embarked on a process to provide their members with recognition of their coaching-specific expertise. In this regard, having already published a Code of Practice for Registered Psychology Practitioners in Coaching as a first step, the IGCCPSA will now be launching South Africa’s List of Coaching Practitioners (LoCP).

A court victory for JASA and ReLPAG as the Cape High Court declares regulations limiting psychologists invalid.

The Cape High Court made an order on the 14th November 2016 declaring the psychologists’ Scopes of Practice regulations issued by the Minister of Health in 2011, invalid. JASA (the Justice Alliance of South Africa) and ReLPAG (Recognition of Life Long Learning in Psychology Action Group) had challenged the validity of the regulations. The Board of Healthcare Funders, the fifth respondent, has agreed to abide by the outcome of the case, and consequently its members and the other medical aids, many of whom refused to pay Psychologists purportedly working outside the Scope of Practice, will need to resume making payments.
