SIOPSA - a new year with big things
10 January 2017
Dear Members and fellow IO Psychologists,
May I, in line with SIOPSA’s overarching theme for 2017, wish you a year of growth in every sphere of your life – new opportunities, successes and personal fulfilment! I trust that you have had a good break and return to work with a restored sense of purpose for the New Year.
The SIOPSA office opened on the 9th of January. I am pleased to say that we are settling into our new abode in Regus Southdowns, Centurion. Feel free to say hello if you are in the vicinity; we would love to get to know our members and guests better.
A highlight on our calendar is the SIOPSA Annual Conference. From 25 to 27 July 2017 we will be learning from and sharing our work as well as the latest trends in ‘Relevant IOP, collaborative solutions and celebrated diversity’. Conference registrations will open soon, so watch this space!
My last communiqué to you in 2016 mentioned that the SIOPSA office had undergone a re-organisation to improve efficiency. The resultant two new positions are better aligned with reaching our goals for SIOPSA 2020, while making the best use of limited funds.
It is my pleasure to introduce our new Customer Support and Administrator, Lungelo Hlela, to you. Lungelo holds a Bachelor of Social Science Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with specialisation in Media and Intercultural Communications Studies and Industrial, Organisational, and Labour Studies.
She gained her administrative and communication/media experience at Primedia and BP, among others.
Briefly, this position’s duties span customer care (i.e. you!), general administration, secretarial responsibilities, CPD support as well as administrative support to the SIOPSA Executive, COO, Financial Controller, and SIOPSA’s new Head of Marketing and Events, and the Conference Coordinator.
On 16 January, Zandile Mjiyako will join SIOPSA as the Head of Marketing, Communications and Events. She is registered at the IMM Graduate School of Marketing to complete her postgraduate diploma in marketing during 2017. She has honed her skills in customer relations, marketing, media relations, brand management, internal and external communications, events, project management, and corporate social investment at Business Partners Limited and the Small Enterprise Finance Agency.
The Head of Marketing, Communications and Events is responsible for compiling and implementing – in partnership with the relevant Executive members, of course – SIOPSA’s integrated marketing and communications strategy, ensuring that our existing and new communication channels are optimally used. This position will also manage, plan and market big events such as those associated with the SIOPSA Academy and the SIOPSA Annual Conference.
Zandile and Lungelo will follow a thorough onboarding process while they receive on-the-job training. We aim to get them on track as soon as possible, but please allow for some inevitable teething problems as we adjust to a more focused and demanding set of deliverables.
I invite you to contact me directly if there are any concerns or in the unlikely event of unreasonable service delays.
I would like to thank you in advance for your support and participation in SIOPSA’s activities during 2017 – while we are a virtual organisation, it is our collaborative effort and commitment to further the interests of South Africa’s workforce that will see our country flourish.
All the best,
