Industrial Psychologists utilise (amongst others) information obtained from the Educational Psychologists’ reports, in combination with information obtained by the IOP to put forward most likely / most probable pre- and post-accident scenarios which serves as a basis for loss of earnings quantification. This event will provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary engagement with Educational Psychologist(s) to explore key considerations for pre- and post-morbid postulations (for both IOP’s and Educational Psychologists) within the South African context. The aforementioned will serve as a basis to cultivate a shared understanding of fair and realistic projections for use by the Actuary and the Courts.

This event will provide an interdisciplinary engagement platform for IOPs as the users of the Educational Psychologist medico-legal report, in order to unpack and explore key considerations of their reports for quantification purposes.

FACILITATORS

Lida Roos is an experienced Educational Psychologist in private practice. She specialised in the field of forensic psychology with a focus on medical negligence claims, personal injury claims and third party claims. Her role is to assess the cognitive, emotional, social and academic functioning of the client and then determine the pre- and post-morbid potential. Lida has more than 17 years experience in medico-legal work and is recognised in her field.  Lida’s experience includes (but is not limited to: Establishing the impact of injury, incident on the various spheres of the developing person; establishing the long-term influence on education, career and functioning; the impact of injury on various areas of functioning including socioemotional functioning; the impact of injury on academic performance and progress; and the resilience of the client.

Tiaan Ellis is a Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) registered Educational Psychologist (PS 0135798). He completed his B.A Sport Science (2009), Honours in Psychology (2010), Post Graduate Certificate in Education (2011) and Masters in Educational Psychology (2016).  Tiaan’s main area of focus is to have to provide medico – legal reports that assist other role players in the damages field to develop fair opinions that are based on scientific research and logical reasoning. Tiaan and his colleagues are collaborating with actuaries, research economists, mathematical statisticians, and other experts to provide factual opinions based on scientific evidence.
