|SIOPSA Pretoria & Johannesburg Branches, in collaboration, with the Interest Group in Systems Psychodynamics of Organisations (IGSPO) invites you to an opportunity to learn and network with fellow professionals at our upcoming event on:
Demystifying working with the Unconscious in Groups
Date: 6 December 2018
Venue: St George’s Hotel & Conference Centre, 58 Goede Hoop Ave, Doornkloof, Pretoria
Background of topic:
Most organisational development models focus on conscious and rational behaviour. Systems psychodynamics is a consultancy stance that studies systemic behaviour ‘above and below the surface’ of consciousness. This perspective of thinking and reflecting on systems in this manner allows the OD consultant/psychologist to be curious, think about, ask questions and hypothesise about the manifesting conscious/rational behaviour, and then to investigate how that relates to the unconscious / irrational behaviour driving transformation in organisations. This includes the system’s manifesting anxiety and its defences, how the system frames its primary task versus operating of-task or anti-task, how leadership takes up its role and how followership responds on leadership, how different kinds of boundaries are managed, how parts of the system authorise and de-authorise themselves and others, and how the systemic identity can be understood and described as organisations deal with transformation. The primary task of this event is to offer participants an opportunity to explore the usefulness and applicability of system psychodynamics to understand organisational behaviour.
Attending this event will also inform attendees about the nature of IGSPO experiential group dynamic workshops, why participants and consultants do what they do, and how individual and group learning happens.
Facilitator: Prof Frans Cilliers
Frans has a DPhil (from Potchefstroom University) and is Emeritus Professor in Industrial & Organisational Psychology at UNISA and Extraordinary Professor at Optentia at North-West University. He is a registered Psychologist (cat. Industrial) and Master Human Resources Practitioner. He attended specialised training in Systems Psychodynamic Organisational Consultancy, Coaching and Research at the Tavistock Institute (UK), the AK Rice Institute (US) and the University of the West of England (UK). He has published in national and international journals. He is a member of various South African (SIOPSA – Honorary Life Member, PSYSSA, COMENSA) and international societies (APA, SIOP, ISPSO, OPUS – Representative for Africa). He consults and coaches on individual and team levels mainly from the systems psychodynamic stance.
Why should you attend?
Relevance to the Emerging Psychologists (IOP Interns, M Com and Honours Students):
The systems psychodynamic stance allows the IOP/HR practitioners and emerging psychologists to explore dynamics below the surface of consciousness, as well as the manifestation of anxiety and its individual, social and systems domain defences. This allows IOP/HR practitioners and emerging psychologists’ access to another lens through which they can explore the dynamics of organisational behaviour and the building of meaningful connections in the work context.
|3 CPD points will be awarded for attending this event|
