IGSPO and SIOPSA, in partnership with The Tavistock Institute, invites you to participate in our second Group Relations Conference exploring ancestral meaning systems as they relate to leadership and authority, taking place on 11, 12, 13 April 2024.
Collaborate with us in this “here and now” experience of holding the present, tapping into the ancestral past and casting our dreams into our associative unconscious as we explore what lies in the lake beneath our surface level conscious.
This unique Group Relations Conference opens a portal for us to explore what is possible in making sense of the notion of ancestor, we also study what it could mean for our “here and now”, what ancestral voices might mean in a cross-trans-post-colonial epistemology of what it means to be human, and how they relate to leadership and authority.
This conference is “Live-Online” from the Cradle of Civilisation, South Africa, and invites all interested in exploring the shamanic, and systems psychoanalytic in contemporary contexts and across generations.
Learning opportunities
This setting offers the opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of:
- group dynamics, both organisational and social, in relation to the roles, tasks, boundaries and connections within organisational and other societal systems.
- how ancestral meaning systems relate to leadership and authority
- how leadership and followership styles, as impacted by ancestral meaning systems, impress the life and culture of an organisation.
- what happens at the intersection of ancestral meaning systems, leadership and authority.
- the impact of emotions, expectations, beliefs, phantasies, and fears on the efficiency, effectiveness and on organisational well-being as we explore ancestral meaning systems, leadership and authority.
- relations between the organisation and its macro-environment, particularly in uncertain and stressful times.
Suitable participants
This conference is designed for those who want to learn more about groups and system dynamics through immediate and direct experience and are curious about the dynamics of leadership and authority.
Participants from backgrounds and careers in many different fields, including organisation consulting, education, government, healthcare, community activism, law, technology, human resources, leadership, and management have found valuable learning at group relations conferences.
Registration and conference membership are accepted at the discretion of the conference staff.
Health check
Our work will be exciting but challenging as we search together for meanings during this conference. We can look forward to both enthusiasm and weariness on this journey. Whilst experiential learning can be stimulating and enriching, it can also be emotionally taxing and confrontational.
Applicants who are unwell, experiencing significant personal difficulties, or are easily intensely emotionally triggered, may want to consider not participating at this time. The conference is educational and does not provide psychotherapy or counselling.
Expectation of Attendance
On registration, participants commit to attending and participating in all conference events. The conference is designed to be an integrated whole, with each event building on the previous. Any member who will miss a session of the conference is requested to inform the conference Administrator kindly.
Should a participant register for the event and not join or only join for some of the time, no refunds will be provided.
