Exploring ancestral meaning systems as they relate to leadership and authority

The rapid destruction of our natural ecological systems and dehumanization of our world calls us. The call to return to the place of belonging, to the homestead of our humanness on planet earth. The umLalhankosi (Buffalo Thorn Tree), used to hold and return the spirits to the place called home, serves as a metaphor for the tree of life to which we belong. African sage Credo Mutwa said: “You must never again say that you do not know something. You must ask the lake, the unseen lake, to provide you with the knowledge that you seek”. His wisdom rings true with Bion’s ideas of our oceanic state of origin. Please join us to explore how our ancestral meaning systems relate to leadership and authority.

A Group Relations Conference (GRC) provides unique opportunities to study organisations as ever-evolving human systems. This unique Group Relations Conference opens a portal for us to explore what is possible in making sense of the notion of ancestor, and to study what it could mean for our “here and now”, and what ancestral voices might mean in a cross-trans-post-colonial epistemology of what it means to be human, and how they relate to leadership and authority.

The conference takes the form of an online temporary learning organisation that comes to life during the opening moments of the conference, studies its own dynamics as they unfold, and dissolves at the end. The invitation is to use this opportunity to learn through here-and-now experiences create awareness and understanding about  ancestral meaning systems as they relate to our  leadership and authority in our daily contexts.

Anyone who desires an in-depth understanding of ancestral meaning systems, leadership and authority as part of organisational life and other daily contexts.

Experiential learning can be stimulating and enriching as well emotionally demanding. The conference is an educational endeavour and does not provide psychotherapy or sensitivity training. If you are not feeling resilient, are ill or experiencing significant personal difficulties, you should not apply to participate.
