Facilitator: Barbara Donaldson

Barbara Donaldson is a registered Industrial and Counselling Psychologist in Independent Practice in Johannesburg. She is a seasoned professional in the field of psycho-legal work, having gained her experience over many years, with over 160 court appearances as an expert witness! 

She also heads up the Psycho-legal Interest Group within SIOPSA which aims to standardise practice and position the profession as a key stakeholder in society and the South African economy at large. She has presented basic ‘how to’ psycho-legal workshops at the SIOPSA Annual Conference to a ‘full-house’ in 2015 and 2016, and then took this workshop to the various SIOPSA Regions. In collaboration with the South African Medico-Legal Society (SAMLS), she presented a full day Mock Trial in July 2017. The present workshop has been compiled in answer to requests from aspiring IOPs in the field who require further training.

Barbara gained a Psychology Master’s degree (cum laude) from UNISA in 1983. She had previously been awarded a BA (Hons) degree in English Language and Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand (1972), followed by a Higher Education Diploma from UNISA (1974), and worked as a Senior English teacher at matriculation level for six years.  Barbara has seven years’ experience as Head of the Assessment Section of the Assessment and Counselling Division, National Institute for Personnel Research. She also has 35 years’ experience in medico-legal assessment of employability and has testified as an expert witness in this regard on numerous occasions. Barbara was awarded full membership of the   South   African   Clinical   Neuropsychology Association in 1991, following peer review and accreditation processes. She has been in private practice for the past 31 years.

It is aimed at any registered health professional who conducts work in the medico-legal field.

The workshop aim is to provide delegates with an understanding of JOB GRADING to:

  • Complete medico-legal reports, including Road Accident Fund (RAF) medico-legal reports;  and
  • Medical negligence medico-legal reports
5 CPD points (3 for content, 2 for ethics).
