Introduction
The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown have a psychological impact on every person, from CEO to cleaner. Globally, experts warn about an employee recovery period following return to work.
The psychological impact of the COVID-19 disruption on people relates to the field of Pre-Traumatic Stress Disorder (Pre-TSD). The result of Pre-TSD is fear of the future and loss of control (feelings of constant uncertainty and insecurity). If these factors are not addressed proactively, the mental wellbeing of people can be affected, e.g., cause risk behaviour or the development of anxiety syndromes, depression, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Also, the post-COVID-19 work environment might have changed for many employees, and adapting to the changing work environment can cause additional stress.
Debriefing, as part of the return to work strategy following the COVID-19 disruption, should be considered, not only from a health and safety perspective but also as a care initiative in terms of due diligence. Debriefing is a formal version of providing emotional and psychological support following a traumatic or disrupting event; the goal of psychological debriefing is to promote psychological wellbeing and prevent the development of negative aftereffects.
Afriforte and the WorkWell Research Unit (NWU) developed a fit-for-purpose real-time platform to assist employers in executing an inside-out debriefing strategy. The purpose of the platform is not only to keep employees engaged and connected during the return to work phase, but also to optimise staff productivity during this period.
Afriforte will share group debriefing resources and guidelines to SIOPSA members who want to implement the platform.
Afriforte has agreed to a special discounted price for SIOPSA members for both the Covid-19 Debriefing Platform and the Covid-19 Debriefing Tool. The costing is volume driven which means there will be incremental price decreases, the larger the sample. The discount can amount up to 44%, depending on the sample size.
