Every profession has a history. But who tells that history and whose voices are heard?

The SIOPSA Story: Past-Present-Future is a landmark account of the evolution of Industrial-Organisational Psychology in South Africa and the journey of the Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology of South Africa (SIOPSA).

Spanning nearly a century, the book traces the development of the profession against South Africa's changing social, political and workplace landscape. It explores where Industrial Psychology has come from, how SIOPSA and the profession have adapted and evolved, and the challenges and opportunities that will shape their future.

The publication brings together historical analysis, the lived experience of SIOPSA, and diverse voices from across the Industrial-Organisational Psychology ecosystem. It engages openly with questions of professional identity, transformation, inclusion, ethics, leadership, professional practice, technology, artificial intelligence, wellbeing and the rapidly changing world of work.

Importantly, this is not simply a celebration of the past. It confronts difficult aspects of the profession's history, recognises voices and experiences that have not always been sufficiently heard, and asks what Industrial-Organisational Psychology must become to remain relevant, responsible and future-fit.

Part professional history, part reflection and part call to the future, The SIOPSA Story is an important resource for psychologists, academics, students, HR and people professionals, organisational leaders and anyone interested in the evolution of work and organisations in South Africa.

The story of a profession. The story of a changing country. The story of what comes next. A story of ubuntu- I am because we are. An invitation.
