Practical Guidelines In taking up the Systems Psychodynamic Organisational Consulting and Coaching Role

This workshop focuses on the professional knowledge and practice of systems-psychodynamic organisational consulting and coaching. Concepts such as working with the self as instrument, negative capability, the conscious and unconscious systems (organisation / leadership) in the mind will be explored. The procedure of starting with the psychological preparation, practical arrangements, performing, closing and assessing the work, will be addressed. Lastly, the focus will be on systems-psychodynamic approaches to supervision where participants have space to think about their own selves as psychological instruments in understanding their work better and deeper.

WORKSHOP BENEFITS

This workshop focusses on how we take up our systems psychodynamic role as organisational psychological consultant and coach. We will discuss our psychological preparation for the work by referring to:

(1) The professional knowledge we need (concepts such as working with the self as instrument, negative capability) &

(2) Helpful practical procedures to access the systemic unconscious from the beginning to the end during psychological consulting and coaching.

WORKSHOP FACILITATORS

• Prof. Frans Cilliers

With a long history in academia and writing, Prof. Cilliers is currently an Emeritus Professor at UNISA, where he continues to teach and mentor postgraduate students at the master's and doctoral levels. He gives lectures at other South African universities as well. The Interest Group on Systems Psychodynamics of Organisations was founded by Prof. Cilliers. In addition, he belongs to and is associated with a number of international organisations.

• Dr Calum McComb

Dr Calum McComb is a registered industrial psychologist and holds a PhD in consulting psychology. He works in private practice consulting to both local and international organisations. His consulting approach is systems psychodynamics and he has more than 10 years of experience in this field.
