Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology of South Africa

27th Annual SIOPSA Conference

Conference Date:

Future Proofing the World of Work for the Greater Good:

The New Era of Skills Transformation and Professional Practice Enhancement

We are living in a time of increasing geopolitical polycrisis, new economic policies shaped by the climate crisis, rapid advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence and sustainable development challenges. Businesses are experiencing the need to respond to scenarios and climates that have never existed before.

An open but critical mindset is required in order to understand, evaluate and respond to these emerging changes and technologies. Within this context, the SIOPSA 2025 Annual Conference recognises the importance of skills development, lifelong learning, and sustainable economic growth. The conference aims to unite a diverse group of psychologists, academics, psychometrists, employees across various industries, HR practitioners, and business leaders to disseminate knowledge and best practices to prepare for the future world of work. The conference will empower attendees with practical knowledge and equip them with the tools to develop a mindset of adaptability to stay relevant in their respective fields. It will provide a platform for sharing practical examples and case studies, fostering a collaborative environment for learning, growth and evolving at pace. The Conference is also an invitation to “Navigating the Future Together!”

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMME

The world of work is changing rapidly due to factors such as artificial intelligence, hybrid work arrangements, and global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.  These changes can impact mental health, especially in South Africa where workplace stress is widespread. Industrial and Organisational Psychologists (IOPs) are essential in designing interventions prioritising well-being and productivity.

The SIOPSA 2024 Annual Conference aims to bring together experts to devise effective strategies to ensure psychological well-being and productivity in the workplace.  The three-day conference will address the following themes: “context,” “content,” and “conduct.”

Context: The focus here will emphasise the significance of context in comprehending workplace mental health. To provide a comprehensive overview, we will employ a scoreboard metaphor. This theme will explore the underlying reasons for mental health issues in the workplace, the scope of the mental health crisis, and dispelling prevalent myths. Additionally, we will discuss current trends and effective strategies for managing mental health in the workplace.

Content: Focus is on multiple touchpoints, coping mechanisms, and collaborative solutions involved in workplace mental health and well-being, emphasising that it is not an isolated issue.

Conduct: Focuses on implementing a forward-thinking approach to addressing mental health issues in the workplace, exploring various methods to promote sustainable development in mental health.
